14TH INVESTITURE CEREMONY, 2017

SHIGALLY HILL INTERNATIONAL ACADEMY CELEBRATES its 14TH INVESTITURE CEREMONY, 2017 & ANNUAL PRIZE DISTRIBUTION DAY.

The new cabinet i.e. the new Student Council for the current scholastic year was sworn in during a very colorful and magnificent ceremony, to inculcate universal benevolence on 13th April, 2017, in the school’s multi-purpose hall.

After the welcome address made by Shagun Srivastava of class XII, the lamp illuminated the alter, duly lit by the chief guest, Mr. C.P. Dang, chairman of The Doon Girls’ School, Dehradun Boys School and the M.D. of Inderlok Hotel; Director, Mrs. Manraj Pallan, Founder Principal, Dr.Leighton  Appleby, Principal, Mrs. Kamaljeet Kaur Jolly, Mr. Rtohi Dang and Ms. Monisha Dutta. The sacrosanct beginning of the grand day, followed by an enchanting classical welcome song, titled “Harshit Hokar Pulkit Hokar” presented by the Hindi choir girls.
Finally, followed the well orchestrated entry by the newly appointed school-in-charges, smartly attired in their official uniform, which not only stands as a symbol of authority, but also service, which goes hand -in- hand with it. The In-charges carried the school flag and their respective house flags with dignity, marching elegantly towards the stage, in perfect harmony with the drum beat.

The Principal, Mrs. Kamaljeet Kaur Jolly administered oath.  The badges were handed to the current office bearers, better known as the members of the ‘Students council’ by the chief guest and the outgoing In-charges. Students who donned the mantle on the occasion, the names and the portfolios are as follows:
Activities Prefect- Astha Kohli
Sports Prefect- Spalzes Angmo
Amaltas House Prefects- Saachi Arora and Shrima Basnyat
Deodar House Prefects- Nimisha Saikia and Dipna Khanal
Gulmohar House Prefects- Jyotpreet Kaur Wadhwa and Tenzin Lhamo
Rudraksh House Prefects- Amrita Srivastava and Tenzin Tsomo
Dormitory Monitors- Asmita Rai and Ruhani Duhan
After the auspicious sworn-in ceremony, the new appointees for the Academic Session 2017-18 delivered speeches, which primarily revolved around the moral commitment towards the students under their care. In each address, the In-charges emphasized that they will stand as upholders of the rich tradition and ethos of Shigally. Thereon, the English Choir girls presented an inspiring song, most apt for the occasion, titled, ‘You’ll always find your way back home’.

   On the day of the function, various awards, trophies and certificates were given to the meritorious, talented and responsible students, after a rigorous selection regime. Once again, for the fourth consecutive year, ‘The overall House Trophy’ was bagged by Gulmohar House, while the Academic Trophy went to Deodar House. The award for ‘Excellent Code of Conduct’ was won by Sanghay Doma Bhutia, from the Junior Dorm and Surbhi Jaiswal ,from the senior category. The highly prestigious ‘Shigallian of the Year’ title was conferred upon Ipshita Bagchi. Further, winning certificates of District Sports Meet and Basketball tournaments, were also given to the deserving participants who brought great laurels to the institution.

On the eventful day, the chief guest, Mr.C.P.Dang, while addressing the gathering, felt overwhelmed with nostalgia, while narrating his good old days as a student at Cambrian Hall. Mr.Dang stated that the true role of the In-charges is to simply serve the students, while guiding them on the virtuous path. The Director aired her views by stating that the In-charges should always be engrossed imbibing the right values in themselves and the students under their care. She further complimented the appointees by saying, now that they have become accomplished young girls, the reward lies in their continuous personal growth.
At the concluding part of the grand ceremony, the Principal, Mrs. Kamaljeet Kaur Jolly presented a token of appreciation to the Chief Guest, for his gracious presence. Finally, she tabled a vote of thanks and stated that these students are chosen after scrupulous selection and evaluation. Mrs. Jolly thanked each member of the service oriented Shigallian community, who bear the responsibility to mould the imperishable minds into confident and wholesome human beings and for keeping the tradition of worthy learning alive at SIA. The spectacular and colorful program concluded by the School song, which was followed by an exotic lunch for all present on the occasion and the Parents- Teachers meeting. The day came to a close on a successful and fulfilling note.
