As an exclusively well maintained tradition, each year, at the end of the most crucial final term, which comprises of a hectic academic schedule, accompanied by the regular games and co- curricular routine, the students and staff rejoiced on the completion of yet another successful academic session.

For instant rejuvenation, after the strenuous regime of the annual examinations, The Shigally girls and staff ventured out for a healthy exposure, tour and adventure. The junior girls went to Jim Corbett National Park to sight wild animals, while the senior girls flew off to Goa to chill out at the exotic beaches and savor authentic Goanese cuisine and sea food. On their return, light nature entertainment evening was organized for the tired but excited Shigallians.

Thereon, numerous activities spread out during the last week of March. Continuous ‘Spiritual Discourses’ and workshops on ‘Life Skills’ and ‘Yoga’ were simultaneously conducted for all the students and the staff of the school.

Owing to the concern and open mindedness of the school’s director and principal, an educative discussion on the ‘pressing issues’ of the teenagers was conducted. Innumerable queries and doubts were cleared during the course of the long workshop. The second day of the festival ended by the authentic ‘Chaat Party’ with an open ‘gol-gappa eating competition’. Next on the itinerary was the much awaited fashion show contest. To gear up the girls and to relax them from the hectic practices of talent hunt, and exotic spa was organized, which had a coupling effect of de-stressing and unwinding. The ramp walk and fashion show was followed by a sumptuous ‘picnic dinner’ on the well maintained schools lawns.

Next day, an amazingly engrossing ‘Comic Skit’ competition was staged in the school’s exquisite auditorium. During the course of the contest, the entire hall kept echoing with loud sounds of laughter. All the team performances were extra ordinary as stated by the school’s director and principal.

The afternoon was followed by rock band and live D.J dance party at the open air amphitheatre accompanied by a lovely dinner laid out with some of the choicest of Indian cuisine’s for the students, parents and guests. The entire Shigallian family expressed their deep appreciation towards the director and the principal for their caring and thoughtful attitude towards organizing the extremely well planned, one week long ‘Fever Fest’- The Shigallian Festival.

Ever since its inception, SIA has been nature bound and there has been a strong feeling, spirit and movement among the Shigallians, to conserve and converse with nature and whatever nature has to offer. Inspired by the directors of the school, who hail from the land of the world renowned ‘Masai Mara National Park’, Kenya ,East Africa, which houses the maximum species of animals in the universe; the much motivated Shigallians went wild sighting animals at the foremost national park of India, The famous ‘Jim Corbett National Park’, Nainital.

The long exciting journey commenced from the school campus on the 22nd of March, 2012 at 6.00 AM. By sun set, the adventurous troupe of girls and staff were at the land of lakes. Yachting is an exciting water sport, and Shigallians firmly believe in participating in all possible life thrilling activities.

UTDC- Uttarakhand Textile Development Corporation complex was visited to educate the young minds on the creation of handloom products. Finally, an awareness trip to the botanical garden and the Nainital zoo was organized to condition the student’s mind to enable them to appreciate vegetation and animals growing and living in their natural habitat at Jim Corbett national park. ‘Corbett village’ was chosen as the base camp site. Various adventure sports like rappelling, rock climbing, river crossing were conducted. Inside the wilderness of the park, different species of animals were sighted like swamp deer, spotted deer, barking deer, wild boar, birds and on top of the list were herds and herds of wild elephants that too mainly tuskers. A onetime life long experience which the prized Shigallians can never overcome is the Masai warrior like warfare combat attack by the heavily built tuskers who found the young animal lovers as intruders in their vast territory. It was indeed a wonderful experience being in the midst of lakes and forest. The unalloyed beauty of the place has left an indelible impression upon the Shigallians minds who were happy to carry back sublime impressions on their very ‘home away from home’- The Shigally Hill International Academy.
